Transitioning from Summer Break to School

Summer came and went in the blink of an eye, and now it’s time for school once again! The transition from summer break to school can be difficult. However, there are many ways to help get your child ready to go back to school in the fall. Some of these tips and tricks include the following:

Know What to Expect

The transition from home to school can be a big change for any child, and can often cause a lot of anxiety and fear of the unknown. Make sure your child understands that school can be exciting and learning can be fun. Help to manage your child’s anxiety by talking them through a regular school day and what they can expect to happen.

Ease the Transition

In the summertime, days are typically relaxed and your child has all the free time in the world. Transitioning to a scheduled day, with early wake-up times and scheduled pickups, can be difficult for them. Slowly start to wake your child up early and make sure to stay busy throughout the day as school inches closer.

Discuss the Day

Take at least 15 minutes per day to make sure that you have one-on-one time with each of your children. This can help them on school days with their transition; they will be able to talk about their day, any concerns they have or maybe some new exciting things they have learned! One-on-one time can help ease any anxieties they have about this big change.
